Anna Stokes Biography

 

Since graduating from the Royal College of Music in 2004 with a First Class Honours, Anna has established herself as an orchestral, chamber and solo player performing in high profile concerts across the UK and abroad.

She has performed in numerous recitals with the Emanuel Ensemble (founded by Anna in 2001) at the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Conway Hall, Leeds International Festival, Schubert Society of Britain, National Gallery, V & A Museum, St-Martin-in-the-Fields and various UK Concert Societies. She has also given various solo recitals including the Qatar Foundation Concert Series sponsored by Qatar Shell Concert in Doha and Lansdowne Club-Mayfair. Anna recently recorded two pieces by the composer Tasoulla Christou for a CD containing a selection of her compositions .

She freelances in orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Brandenburg Sinfonia, London Concert Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, New Professionals Orchestra and Orpheus Sinfonia amongst others.

Anna was recently awarded the "Marc Rich Scholarship for Artistic Achievement 2008" . She also won 3rd prize in the Haynes International Flute Competition 2007, Boston – USA.  She was selected to perform in the Sir James Galway Masterclass 2008 (Weggis), 2007 (Weggis - 2007), Cadogan Hall Masterclass- London and (Interlaken-2006 funded by an award from the Solti Foundation) and won a Gold Nagahara headjoint for "Best Class Performer" by popular vote in the 2007 masterclass.

Anna has coached and given ensemble workshops in the UK, Hong Kong and Qatar.

A Foundation Scholar at the RCM, she studied with Susan Milan and Stewart McIlwham and went on to private receive tuition from Celia Chambers and Paul Edmund-Davies. Previously, she was a Scholar at the Purcell School of Music.

Anna is also a qualified Acupressure Practitioner (MAcSAp) having studied at the College of Chinese Medicine and has a keen interest in treating musicians.

In May 2009, Anna will be performing as a soloist with orchestra as well as various chamber and orchestral concerts in the Seychelles Interfest 2009.

Anna St
okes graduierte im Jahr 2004 am
Royal College of Music mit Auszeichnung (First Class Honours Degree). Als "Foundation" Stipendiatin studierte sie Flöte mit Susan Milan und Stewart McIlwham. Zuvor studierte sie an der Purcell School of Music unter Anna Pope. Im Augenblick spielt Anna Stokes unter der Leitung von Paul Edmund-Davies und Celia Chambers.

Sie tritt regelmäßig als Solistin und Kammer- und Orchesterspielerin bei bekannten Konzerten auf. Vor kurzem wurde sie in das "Future First" Programm des Philarmonischen Orchesters von London aufgenommen (Oktober 2006-Juli 2007). Sie wurde mit dem Solti Foundation Award im Mai 2006 ausgezeichnet und wurde kürzlich zur Teilnahme am James Galway International Masterclass Programm in Interlaken, Schweiz, eingeladen. Aktuelle Engagements beeinhalteten Auftritte mit dem Emanuel Ensemble, welches von ihr gegründet wurde, mit dem "Finanzia Trio" sowie dem "Flute & Piano Duo" mit Pianist Rhodri Clarke im unter anderem im Purcell Room, der Wigmore Hall, in St-Martin-in-the-Fields und am St. James Piccadilly. Sie tritt regelmäßig in Orchestern wie dem BBC Concert Orchestra, dem London Kensington Sinfonia, der Young Janácèk Philarmonie und dem Roxburgh Festival Chamber Orchestra auf und ist an Projekten bei RPO und dem Philarmonia Orchestra beteiligt. Das Emanuel Ensemble gewann im Juni 2006 den zweiten Preis bei dem anglo-tschechoslowakischen Wettbewerb in London.
 
Anna hat an diversen "Masterclasses" mit international bekannten Flötisten teilgenommen und 2001 Werke von Jindrich Feld gespielt, der an der entsprechenden "Masterclass" persönlich teinahm. Sie hat des weiteren Konzerte von Chaminade, Mozart, Reinecke, Rouse und Quantz aufgeführt. Sie wurde mit Stipendien der Solti Foundation, der Foundation for Sports & the Arts, der EMI Sound Foundation, dem Jellinek Award und dem Eddie Curtis Memorial Grant & Ken Denham Trust Award ausgezeichnet. Anna spielt auf einer Brannen-Cooper Flöte welche ihr von der Foundation for Sports and the Arts überreicht wurde.
